ABSTRACT DE LA PONENCIAGraduated in History from the University of the Balearic Islands with the Extraordinary Prize for a Bachelor's Degree (1987). Gained a PhD in History from the same university with the Extraordinary Prize for a Doctorate (1996). Former recipient of a grant from the Higher Council for Scientific Research. Lecturer in Modern History at the University of the Balearic Islands since 1994. Since 2004 he has been a Lecturer and Course Director in Modern History at the University of the Balearic Islands. He was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts of the same University between June 2004 and June 2011. His field of research has been the history of manufacturing, on which subject he has published three books, the most important ones being La manufactura de la lana en la Mallorca del siglo XV (The woollen goods industry in 15th-century Mallorca) (1997) and La manufactura de la llana a la Mallorca moderna (ss. XVI-XVII) (The woollen goods industry in modern Mallorca (16th-17th C.) (1998). He has also studied, and published articles and chapters of books on, the leather goods industry and wind power in the Mallorca of the Ancien Régime. He has been invited on two occasions (2002 and 2008) to take part in the Settimane di Studi (Study Weeks) of the Istituto Internazionale di Storia Economica Francesco Datini (Francesco Datini International Institute of Economic History). At present he is also engaged in another line of research relating to military history, having been invited – for example – to the International Congress held in Barcelona and Perpignan to mark the 350th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of the Pyrenees between the Hispanic and French monarchies. He has taken part in half a dozen research projects financed by various Spanish public bodies. At present he is taking part in one of these projects led by the Higher Council for Scientific Research and another one led by Barcelona University. |
